We love the Grenadines for many reasons. Brian and I were married there in 2004, and there are so many reasons to visit this group of tropical islands in the eastern Caribbean, especially because the Grenadines are perfect for cruising.

This was our third visit to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. For our 10th wedding anniversary, we returned to the Grenadines and chartered a sailboat with friends. We loved sailing there then and we had a great time this July sailing the islands again.
Here’s some of the reasons I think you should visit The Grenadines, especially by boat!
We have already been in the northernmost island of Turks and Caicos, Providenciales, for a week. Or as everyone here calls it, Provo.
Boat Work
We needed some work done, as you may have heard, so we docked Sava at a marina to have easier land access. We spent 6 nights on the boat at Turtle Cove Marina. It was a good location to get our errands done and explore the island.
If I am sleeping on the boat, I prefer sleeping at sea. Being docked we felt the oppressive heat, no wind, and fought a lot of bugs. We need a few days at sea to get rid of all the bug bites! But, as many people have said, if that’s our biggest problem, we can’t complain.
I like Provo. The locals are friendly and it’s a very international crowd. We met people from England, South Africa, Switzerland and Puerto Rico who call Turks and Caicos home.

Eating Out
When we arrived in Provo, we were almost out of produce, protein, snacks, we did a job on our stores. We had been cooking up a storm on board, and had to stock up at the grocery store. But first, we were going to eat out and save the provisioning until right before we started sailing again. We tried all the restaurants near Turtle Cove and a few more.
The Florida Keys are much bigger than I could explore in a year let alone the mere 2 weeks we’ll have spent there. I wish we had more time to spend sailing The Florida Keys but this is the time we had and we did a lot in that time.
Our goal was Key West but it is far! We had to break it up and make stops along the way. With a sailboat, you can’t pick and choose where the stops are. A lot of The Keys don’t have great places to anchor. You want your anchorage to be protected from wind and waves as much as possible. We are learning that those are not always easy to find.
Key Largo
This was our first and longest stay. We motored the boat down from Miami in about 7 hours. We drove because there wasn’t much wind that day and we wanted to arrive before dark. Sadly, sailing the Florida Keys isn’t possible without wind.
