A Weekend in Virgin Gorda

We ended our stay in the Virgin Islands with a truly memorable weekend in Virgin Gorda. Dividing our time between a stunning natural beach and a really raucous party, we’ll always remember last weekend.

The Baths

Virgin Gorda is known for The Baths, considered a “must see” for any visitor to the BVIs. We loved everything about this natural landmark.

The Baths are beautiful sea pools created between huge boulders at the southern corner of Virgin Gorda. You pay a very small entrance fee (it’s a national park) and walk down a trail that takes you to a beautiful beach.

You can swim and snorkel in the crystal clear water at the beach, which is lovely on its own.

Less than 24 Hours in San Juan

We didn’t have a lot of time to spend in Puerto Rico’s capital city but we tried to enjoy as much as we could. In less than a day, we visited 3 neighborhoods, saw some sights, and sampled the local cuisine. Here are some ideas of how you can spend less than 24 hours in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Luquillo Kioskos

Kiosk #20

They aren’t in San Juan, but the kiosks are close enough that you should go if you have a car. Located right off the highway and adjacent to Luquillo Beach are more than 50 restaurant kiosks with all different kinds of food. Italian, Mexican, pizza, burgers, seafood and Puerto Rican food are only some of the options here. This is the perfect place because you will always find something you want.

We parked and walked around for a bit before making our selection. Our choice was a restaurant that looked nice, had a lot of customers who seemed to be locals, and served traditional Puerto Rican dishes, including pork and mofongo, must try Puerto Rican food.

El Terruño Kiosk #20 was perfect and the food, crispy rabbit churrasco, roast pork and a mofongo was great!

If you go to El Yunque, the kiosks are on the way back to San Juan, so don’t miss them!

Loving Luperón

Luperón, Dominican Republic is likely not a place you have heard of unless you sail. This is a messy, crazy, friendly town and there are lots of reasons we are loving Luperón .

Hurricane hole

Luperón Harbor, where we have been moored since Friday, is known as the best hurricane hole in the Caribbean. Even if the wind is howling at sea, it is relatively calm in the anchorage. We are sleeping very well with barely any movement at night.
