Sydney Beaches and Pools

Sydney Australia is a wonderful city to visit! It’s especially great to visit in summer, which is when we were there. On top of celebratory fireworks and outdoor festivals, Sydney has many excellent and popular beaches. Summer is hot; the temperature got to almost 40C, and the best way to cool off is to jump in the water. The good news is Sydney beaches and pools are plentiful, and the water is definitely cool. Sometimes it’s too cold, but when it’s this hot, it feels good, at least for a while.

Summer Weather in Sydney

Australia’s biggest city, Sydney is located on the New South Wales coast. Considered to be part of a temperate climate zone, Sydney has warm to hot summers and no dry season. Our experience in summer is temperatures from high teens to high 30s C, with days of full sun alternating with days of clouds and/or rain. Sometimes the best days are the cloudy ones because that sun is strong!

New Zealand Road Trip Route

Our two month campervan road trip of New Zealand is over and we had a great time. The New Zealand road trip route took us from Tauranga, North Island to Fiordland in the South and back. We drove over 6200km and saw countless beautiful sights.

Planning Our New Zealand Road Trip Route

Small as New Zealand is – equivalent to Colorado – there’s a lot to see and do. Before we hopped in the van, we didn’t have much of a plan besides seeing as much as we could. We bookmarked Lonely Planet, read people’s blogs, and used Google Maps to decide where to go and what to do.

Once we started driving, we only knew where we were going next. Then, as the days progressed, we booked two things weeks in advance: the Doubtful Sound overnight cruise, and the Kaikoura Coastal Walk. Everything else we booked a day or two in advance or last minute.

And Sometimes We Relax: Ojo de Agua, Ometepe Islands

I know this blog is called Mel On the Go, and I usually am pretty active trying new things or repeating activities I love in new places, but sometimes I need a break. And Lyna is on vacation, so we opted for a chill day and found it easy to relax at Ojo de Agua!

how to relax in the ometepes

The Ometepe Islands is a good spot for a relaxing day. While I couldn’t find any spas, the lakefront here is similar to an ocean, with sandy beaches and waves lapping onto the shore. It’s lovely and calming. And the water temperature is perfect!

Wednesday’s epic hike made us tired and sore, so we kicked back and took the day at a leisurely pace and enjoyed ourselves.

Our yummy lakeshore breakfast involved watching the waves and the horses walking through them outside our hotel. $3.50 for breakfast at our hotel fueled us for the day. After eating, we debated a dip in the lake or just a chill in the hammock. We had a very limited agenda.
