Where We Are: Anchored in Great Bird Island, Antigua

Brian, Domino and I have been anchored in Great Bird Island, Antigua for a month. We moved here as the island was going into lockdown, quarantine et al due to Coronavirus.

A month is a long time for us! In fact, this is the longest we have stayed in one anchorage since we moved on board Sava. Since this is Sava’s new home, here’s a rundown of the anchorage, with lots of photos.

Where is Great Bird Island?

Located in the northeast of Antigua, Great Bird Island is a tiny uninhabited islet with other even smaller islets surrounding it. While uninhabited, during tourist season it can be busy in the daytime when power boats bring locals and tour groups to the beaches and for snorkeling.

Animals of The Caribbean In Photos

You know I like cats, but I appreciate most animals. In fact, I squeal, point and try to take photos (not necessarily in that order) of most animals I see, on land and under the sea. In the Caribbean, animals like goats, sheep, donkeys, cows, dogs, birds, monkeys, and lizards abound on land, and I’ve spotted them all. This post focuses on land animals of the Caribbean in photos.

Cats of the Caribbean

If you’re looking for a post about catamarans, keep moving, because this is all about the cute and friendly cats and kittens I keep seeing on the islands. Whenever I see one, I try to take a photo so here’s a cats of the Caribbean post. Don’t worry, Domino doesn’t know, and she still gets lots of love from us at home.

Most of these sweet felines are from Martinique, but some were spotted in Saint Lucia and Guadeloupe. Some are so friendly they’ll walk right up to you and most are so secure they won’t run away when you approach. Here’s some cute cats of the Caribbean.

Cats in Saint Lucia

We met this first girl in a bar in Soufriere, Saint Lucia. She lived in that bar and was really affectionate with both of us and got especially curious about Brian’s phone.
