So as you now know, we bought a boat, a sailboat at that! We have a life plan and that is we’re going sailing on it for a long time. Now is the time to show you what Sava looks like inside and out!
About Our Sailboat
Our boat is a 46 foot monohull Bavaria. “What does that mean?” all the non-sailors say. A monohull is a type of boat having one hull – unlike a catamaran, which has more than one hull connected to each other. Learn more sailing jargon, matey.
Our boat is named Sava, which apparently was based on all the initials of the former owners. We like it because it reminds us of the French “ca va” which translates to “It goes” which hopefully our boat will go – to a lot of fun and warm and beautiful places, with us on it! Plus, who has time to come up with a new name for a boat when you’re trying to rent your house, pack everything up, and move onto a 46′ boat in Florida?!
We Bought a Boat: Inside Sava
Living aboard this boat should be comfortable. Electronically, Sava is equipped with an auto pilot, a water maker, batteries, solar panels, two “heads” with showers, and an electric windlass for the giant anchor. That’s a lot of useful gear!
Sava sleeps 6, has a compact galley, and is roomy enough for Brian to stand down below, and he’s 6 feet tall. The galley has a fridge and freezer, a stove with two burners and an oven, and two sinks.
Our boat is at a dock behind a home in Fort Lauderdale so we’ll start our where our journey there!
Photos of Our Boat
Here are some photos of our new residence. Now you know about as much as we do: we bought a boat and we’re going to live on it!
