Camping in Iceland
Iceland is beautiful and so peaceful. As we came in the “shoulder season” of October, the campgrounds are mostly empty. We are still able to camp, the weather isn’t too cold, but we usually have the sites to ourselves! It might be the best time to visit Iceland. Ultimately, the best time to visit Iceland depends on what you want to do. Today we found a nice spot for camping in Iceland, on the east coast, called Fáskrúðsfjörður.
About Fáskrúðsfjörður
This is a tiny town along the fjords on the eastern coast of Iceland. We had a great time driving around this area admiring the scenery. It’s slow going because the roads do wind along the fjords, but it’s worth it for the views. And really, that’s what Iceland is about is the natural beauty and views. We’re in a camper van exploring this magical place, and we are not in a rush.
Heading North
After the fjords we will continue north, looking for hotpots, geysers, and waterfalls, of course. In the north we expect to see the Arctic, ocean views and maybe even whales. We are learning that every stop in Iceland is beautiful and worthwhile. 10 days may not be enough. I am glad we found this nice spot for camping in Iceland and would recommend it to anyone doing a camper van tour of the country.
This is great! We were actually discussing going camping in Iceland next year at some point, and this spot looks really nice to spend a couple of nights at.
OMG enjoy it Krista, it’s so beautiful. LMK if you have any questions before you go!
I never actually would have thought about camping in Iceland, but this looks really cool, and such great views to wake up to in an already beautiful looking country. Definitely a place I want to visit one day so I might have to look at doing this for a really unique way of seeing Iceland
Beautiful. When I went to Iceland, it was dead winter and we weren’t able to make it to the east coast. But would love to do a full ring road trip.
I remember being in Iceland and seeing so many campers! That would be a unique experience! Something to think about for the future
This great as we are going to Iceland in September and renting a camper van. I’m really drawn to the fjords of the east coast so it’s great to know where to camp.
Glad I could help, Karen. You will love Iceland!
