Domino: R.I.P.

The best cat we ever knew, Domino. She lived 18 years, 8 of them on a boat. She traveled across an ocean, flew on a few planes, and kept us company over countless passages. We adopted her as a kitten, and tried our best to give her a good life into old age. We will miss you Domino: R.I.P., Rest in Peace.

Early Years

We adopted Domino as a kitten from the Toronto Humane Society. This fiesty little kitten chose us, grabbing from inside her cage. We brought her home and she’s been our baby ever since. Domino was a companion for our still young Maggie, who had lost her sister Serena, killed by a car a few months before. Maggie wasn’t immediately a fan of this interloper, but they grew on each other.

Puteri Harbour, Malaysia

Malaysia is its own unique country, and what we’ve seen so far we like. Our first stop after Indonesia was Puteri Harbour, Malaysia. A bay carved out of the mangrove jungle just across the narrow channel from Singapore, Puteri Harbour offers a marina, restaurants, and some good provisioning nearby.

Checking In to Malaysia

Checking in was so easy because of the proximity to the ferry terminal, which brings visitors from Batam, Indonesia daily. Once we docked, we sat on our boat until the Pine Tree marina team retrieved us in their golf cart for the short drive to the ferry terminal. At the terminal we had a very brief meeting with a government agent representing customs and immigration. We gave him our paperwork and he briskly stamped us into the country. Welcome to Malaysia in a few minutes. One of the easiest check-ins to a country ever!

Down Time in Lombok

We arrived in Lombok, Indonesia in late November. After three weeks in Indonesia getting to Lombok, we settled there for a bit and got to know the area. During that time, we went to a festival, visited some satellite islands, and enjoyed some down time in Lombok.

About Lombok

Lombok is an island east of Bali and west of Sumbawa. While its closest neighbor is Bali, Lombok is part of the province of West Nusa Tenggara. 4,607 square kilometers in size, Lombok is surrounded by several islets, a few of which we visited. It has a healthy population of over 4 million very friendly people. We spent most of our down time in Lombok in the northwest quadrant, north of the town of Senggigi, and east of the Gili islands. We also sailed to some islands on the southeast, visited waterfalls, and even rented scooters.
