Sailing from Antigua to Bonaire

We made it to Bonaire safe and sound. We made a successful multi-day passage which was a huge relief since it was by far our longest sail yet. It wasn’t a perfect sail but sailing from Antigua to Bonaire went much better than expected.

Brian and I love Antigua, but after five months in the country, we were ready to go. Checking out was so easy but a little sad too. Over our last weeks in Antigua I realized what a special time we had there and I’ll always cherish the memories.

Ready to Sail

We received our approval to enter Bonaire on Friday, June 26th, with an entry date of July 1st. Our provisioning was already done except for a few last minute foods which we bought in Falmouth on Saturday afternoon: hummus and pitas, and peri-peri chicken. Otherwise, Sava was packed up, filled with gas and water, and we were ready to haul anchor and set sail for our longest trip ever!

Where’s Domino?

Everybody is getting bored of lockdown, except for our cat Domino. This is normal life for her: she hasn’t left the boat since last February when we stayed overnight at our friends’ Louis and Susan’s place in Miami. So the question isn’t so much where’s Domino in the world, just where’s Domino on the boat.

Domino’s Favorite Lounging Spots

Domino moves around our boat like it’s hers, and she has her favorite spots to relax. Also, the boat isn’t that big so she doesn’t have too many options! She goes from our bed to her food bowl to the salon couch to the bookshelf and back and forth and in between during daytime hours.

Cats of the Caribbean

If you’re looking for a post about catamarans, keep moving, because this is all about the cute and friendly cats and kittens I keep seeing on the islands. Whenever I see one, I try to take a photo so here’s a cats of the Caribbean post. Don’t worry, Domino doesn’t know, and she still gets lots of love from us at home.

Most of these sweet felines are from Martinique, but some were spotted in Saint Lucia and Guadeloupe. Some are so friendly they’ll walk right up to you and most are so secure they won’t run away when you approach. Here’s some cute cats of the Caribbean.

We met this first girl in a bar in Soufriere, Saint Lucia. She lived in that bar and was really affectionate with both of us and got especially curious about Brian’s phone.
