Klang Day Trip

When we were in Kuala Lumpur (KL for short), we took a day trip to the Royal City of Klang. An interesting place with a rich history, it’s an easy trip from KL, and there’s enough to do to fill a day. We met nice people, saw some sights, and had a good lunch on our Klang day trip.

Why Take a Klang Day Trip

The main reason we went to Klang was to pick up a part at a marine chandler outside of Klang. Since it was almost an hour each way from Kuala Lumpur, I researched what to do nearby and realized there was a lot! The Royal City of Klang has interesting history, great street art, and more.

We took Grabs both ways from KL to Klang, and they are so efficient and inexpensive in Malaysia that it was fine for us. You take a Grab for 45 minutes and it costs less than a 10 minute trip in Toronto.

That’s not the only way to get there. After our Klang day trip, we discovered that a new train station had just opened and the train was running for free as a new promotion! The LRT makes a lot of stops so would take about 90 minutes whereas the car depending on traffic takes about an hour. Read on for what to see and do.

Impressions of Bali

Since we arrived in Indonesia in November, we’ve fallen in love with this country. From the friendly islands of eastern Indonesia we moved on to the center. In between visa runs, we visited Bali a few times, staying on land and on our boat. Although our short stays are not enough to provide a definitive guide to the island, we developed impressions of Bali.

About Bali

Bali is one of the world’s most renowned vacation spots and has been called “Heaven on Earth.” We respectfully disagree. We found this paradise spoiled by overcrowding, traffic, and pollution. When we were there, it wasn’t even busy with tourists, as tourism has been down lately.

Much like Moorea versus Tahiti in French Polynesia, we prefer Lombok over Bali. Lombok is quieter and more relaxed. I know we’ve been spoiled, and after years of traveling we prefer uncrowded places. But our impressions of Bali also include some lovely places and experiences.

Best of Sydney

We loved Sydney. After sailing there for the holidays, it was hard to leave. What started as a month long visit became a wonderful two month stay. I miss the city’s clean streets, happy residents, busy bars and restaurants, excellent museums, and fun festivals. The best of Sydney ranges from cool music venues to funky neighborhoods to free art galleries and beautiful hikes.

Best Anchorage: Glebe Bay

My list of the best of Sydney wouldn’t be complete without talking about where we spent most of our time on the boat. Sydney has a lot of great anchorages, and it’s easy to move around as long as you avoid the ferries. You can anchor somewhere for great beaches and elsewhere for the fireworks. For us, the most convenient bay for shops and sightseeing was Glebe, which has three anchorages.

Glebe, Blackwattle and Rozelle were great anchorages for the selection of safe and convenient dinghy docks. We had dinghy parking at the fish market, the ferry dock, or Rozelle Bay park, giving us access to multiple shops, restaurants, and transit lines.
